James McCullough is an Irish International event and dressage rider with over 20 years’ experience. He is also a British Eventing Accredited Coach and is available to coach in the Warwickshire area, to school and compete clients’ horses and he always has a small selection of quality horses for sale.

James has Evented up to 3* level, trained to PSG level in dressage and show jumped at Grand Prix level. He is a former Junior Irish National Dressage Champion and has represented Ireland in all three disciplines. He is a British Eventing Accredited Coach and has trained numerous national champions in eventing and dressage including juniors, young riders, pony club and riding club. James now Events and competes a string of horses from producing youngsters for Young Horse Classes to the more experienced International level Event horses.

James started riding at the age of four at his parents farm in Ireland and has been involved with horses ever since.  By the age of ten he was a regular on the show jumping circuit competing 12.2hh ponies before graduating to 13.2hh’s and then 14.2hh’s. By the age of twelve he broke his first horse – a thoroughbred stallion that he went on to become a Junior National Dressage Champion with and gain his first cap for Ireland.  James started eventing at the age of fourteen and regularly competed on the circuit working his way up to 3* level. He went on to gain valuable experience in his late teens working for the late Irish Olympic event rider Captain David Foster.

At the age of twenty one James moved to Belgium to train with dressage legends Marietta Whitages and her husband Raymond Whitages. Marietta, an FEI and Olympic dressage judge and Raymond a former student of the Spanish School of Equitation took James under their wing as their resident rider. In his time in Belgium James gained valuable knowledge in the classical approach to dressage whilst managing the yard and working daily their ten Grand Prix horses. It was in this time that he honed his craft and developed his meticulous attention to detail.

James excels in training and producing young horses, having produced many horses from scratch and taking them to the top levels of their sport. He has qualified and ridden in the future event horse classes at the Royal Dublin Horse Show and Burghley and has started off the careers of several young event horses now competing Internationally.

James is based in a first-class yard in Claverdon, Warwickshire with exceptional facilities including gallops and an equine swimming pool. Horses can be taken in on full or competition/schooling/holiday livery and James is always happy to discuss clients needs. Each horse has an individual routine to suit them and Head Girl Caragh Bak helps ensure that each horse receives the highest quality of care.

Proven genuine Irish horses are always available for sale ranging from quality all-rounders to outstanding competition horses. Each horse is individually sourced from Ireland and selected for its movement, temperament and ability. As James produces only a few of these horses each year clients can be assured that these horses have received outstanding training and education from James, and have been produced carefully and thoughtfully with their long-term future in mind. James trains horses and riders from unaffiliated level through to Grand Prix dressage, helps event riders of all abilities and excels in show jumping training to promote suppleness and elasticity. He holds regular clinics in the Warwickshire area and is available to travel for training sessions.

James is available to take horses for short and long term schooling and can compete clients’ horses.
